I’ve literally known Maria since I was born. First introduced to me as Mia, I have many memories of begging to play with her and my sisters since I could just about talk. From family holidays, birthday parties and major life milestones Maria has been there as my two sister’s best friend (along with the fourth member Cathy) for all of my life. As the (almost) 26 years have gone by, Maria is considered a very close family friend to not only my two sisters but all of my siblings and I. It’s amazing to be part of other peoples journey’s through-out life regardless to whether or not we take different paths. Maria always sent me wonderful wishes and words of encouragement when I was embarking on any big life adventures and I feel like now its time to celebrate her achievements. [Read more…]
Its been a bit of a struggle settling back in over the past four months and getting back into the swing of things. Not only did we move home, but with starting a new job, meeting up with friends and all the big changes to our lives, it was the last thing on my mind to be conscious of a perfectly balanced diet. Lets just say I enjoyed being back in Ireland this summer when it came down to food. Being deprived of all your “favourite” comfort foods while living on another continent is difficult and I may have over indulged – just a smidgen. lol. Which faced me with the old dilemma of ‘where do I even start?”.
I decided that it was perfect timing with the new fitness, workout studio opening in my job the past few weeks. I’m extremely lucky that where I work offers such amazing amenities to its employees. We have a full workout studio where they have multiple classes available during the week; before work, during lunch time and after work. An array of classes including TRX, boxing, bootcamp, yoga and core conditioning are available. After a little bit of hesitation (mainly being shy as I’m still a newbie) I signed up and thought this might not only be a good way to exercise but also to meet people and to get a little more social. I forgot how good the endorphins after exercise feel! Such a good release of energy and a lot of fun. I’ve gotten to know the girls in my department really well and its nice to do something that isn’t work related all the time. Shout out to Kate, Miriam, Hannah and Zoe! [Read more…]
Hitting the mid-20’s, I never thought I’d see the day (dramatic I know – you’d swear I was turning 100). But turning over to the mid side of things is kind of a big deal, we all know it’s when you tick the next box over on application forms. Although I’m still 12 in the eyes of my brothers, will always be known as the youngest of six and the baby to my parents..I feel like the past year has been a really significant one. The decade known as the bridge to the big 3-0, I’m almost half way through? How did that happen? Are your 20’s really meant to be the best days of your life? (so many questions…) The days you should be spending out exploring, experimenting and enjoying your freedom? I’m not so sure everyone believes in this and that’s okay, but I sure like to think people incorporate all aspects into their lifestyle. So far my 20’s are proving to be pretty gooooooood.
Turning 22 and signing up for a two year visa was the biggest decision in my life thus far. Everybody is bound to different paths and everybody is entitled to live the way that makes them happy. If we all were the same, what would be the fun in that?
We all have our own story to tell and that’s the beauty of life. This blog and these stories are mine. I intend on using it as a reflection in years to come, to see how I spent these years of my 20’s and how I became the person I will be at 30. This time last year I was only a newbie to Canada, still a little shy and anxious, but I had taken a big step in coming here. A short 3 months later I turned 23 and that’s when the ball dropped and everything changed. What I’ve learnt about myself and who I am in the past year will stick with me for the rest of my life. I changed in ways I never knew was possible and its only been 1 year. If turning 24 is only a smidgen of how amazing the past year has been, I’ll be a pretty lucky girl. [Read more…]
I’m sure it’s a common problem amongst all generations and ages when you feel like your tummy is sticking out feeling bloated and heavy, unable to feel comfortable after eating. Well, over the years I’ve been feeling just like that. Having struggled with my digestive system not knowing why I had abdominal pains, heartburn, bloating, discomfort and even indigestion. It gradually got worse and one morning last Spring I found myself doubled over in bed not being able to move. Having no idea what was the cause I headed straight to my doctor. We went through what I had eaten the day prior and decided that we needed to eliminate foods from my diet and see how I felt. Once I was feeling better I could reintroduce different food groups and figure out where the intolerance lay. I had never really thought of juicing as a supplement to a meal in my diet that would help my stomach discomfort. The doctor recommended substituting a meal, preferably breakfast, with a veggie juice. I also got some tips and advice from my brother and his wife as they are big juicers! They encouraed me to watch the documentary on netflix- Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead – to see clearly the benefits of juicing. It documents a juice journey of two men on a quest for weight loss and healthy eating. With both the Doctor and documentary on my mind, I set out and bought a Breville Juicer! [Read more…]
